This tutorial was prepared with use of EDB-3201 set but all steps are identical for following products:
- EDB-3201 WWII USN Aircraft Carrier Deck
- EDB-4801 WWII USN Aircraft Carrier Deck
- EDB-7201 WWII USN Aircraft Carrier Deck
Step 1 — Cleaning and completing
Base should be carefully degreased. Wash it in warm water with a little bit of washing-up liquid of your choice and leave base to dry. Take paper towel and clean base with petroleum ether. Be careful and avoid source of fire as petroleum ether is very flammable.
Step 2 — Priming
Such prepared base can be primed with Mr.Resin Primer Surfacer, Mr.Metal Surfacer 1200 or similar primer.
Step 3 — Painting
Paint base with teak wood colour of your choice and metal elements with steel colour. Use hairspray technique with hairspray or special “Worn Effect” fluid made by AK Interactive.
Paint deck with Blue Flight Deck Stain (No.21) or Deck Blue Stain (No.20) colours. Ready to use paint is manufactured i.e. by Lifecolor company (UA624 Deck Blue 20B). Dashed lines paint with light grey colour.
Step 5 — Weathering and finish
At this moment we may start to make deck worn with use of hairspray technique. Paint arresting wire with steel colour and lay it across the deck in desired shape and place.
Step 6 — Wooden frame
Wooden frame can be painted or finished in preferred style. When dried, base should be installed in frame. We suggest to glue it together with use of white glue or epoxy glue. Please check carefully quality of join. Weak bond of frame and base may end with damaged kit.
