Set can be used with the following AFVs:
- Name: Modern “Eastern” Cargo Bags
- Scale: 1/35
- Item used: E-025
- Author: Stefan Frankiewicz
Step 1 — Cleaning and completing
Remove thin resin remnants with sharp blade. Please, be careful, sharp blade may hurt you or damage resin part. Clean and polish joining points of resin parts with sandpaper. Use 800–1000 grade sandpaper. To separate small parts from resin sprue please scratch the line near the part. Use sharp needle and scratch the surface several times. Break the part from the sprue and sand the surface with file and polish with sandpaper.
Step 2 — Priming
Such prepared items can be primed with Mr.Resin Primer Surfacer, Mr.Surfacer or similar primer.
Step 3 — Painting
Backpack can be painted in any colour you can see in catalogues or in nearest shop with sport or hiking equipment. Yes, at last you can use those fluorescent colours you never had opportunity to use. Be brave, nobody can say your colour choice is unhistorical!
This kind of cargo bags are made from strong and durable polypropylene fabric so base colour looks like “dirty” white. In reality white polypropylene is slightly transparent and this makes colours of these bags not as vivid as someone would expect. Stripes or grid pattern is transparent so each colour overlay another. You should remember about it when you will print your own decals or when you would like to paint it on your own.
To make it properly, use white glossy paint for bags (and whatever you like on towel seen in the bag). Items visible on the photos were painted with Gunze Base White. Using white paint is really important because decals are partially transparent and using different base paint will change look of your cargo bags. Of course you may use different base colour and print your own decals — feel free to experiment. Sample of different base paint is seen on one of the photos below.
Step 5 — Wet Decals
Decals are printed as whole sheet to give you choice which bag will have this or another design variant. You have to cut decal for separate parts of bags and you have to remember to keep small margin each time. It will make your work easier.
Remember to use SET and SOL liquids to achieve the best results. These samples were made with Aero Master liquids and there were no problems with decals.
Start decalling with sides of the bags. Correct order: SET → decal → SOL.
Use soft brush to put decal in the desired place and leave margins of decals on the sides.
With decal almost dried we need to cut unnecessary parts of decal. Please use brand new and very sharp blade and be careful, blade may hurt you or damage decal. Cut decal on support stripes and on the edges of the bag where strong seam is visible. Remove carefully superfluous decal. In case of completely dried decal use a little bit of tap water to make it soften.
Use the same method to put decal on other sides of the bag and on the top.
You may use one strip of decal to make it quicker but real bad is sewn from separate parts of fabric so to imitate that you may cut separate parts of decals too. All such cargo bags have very strong and bold seams and you’ll see such seams on our product.
With decal put on the sides of bag only strengthening stripes and bag handles are left.
Cut needed decal from thin stripes and put it on these places. This is necessary to imitate way how real cargo bags are sewn.
Remember to protect decal with coat of satin varnish.
Step 5 — Weathering and finish
Feel free to adjust appearance of these cargo bags but you have to remember these bags are quite hard to be dirty and are quite easy to clean. If you would like to make them worn, you need to show it torn or scratched. In fact such cargo bags are so strong that are used many years without really visible damages. Backpacks… well, just look on your own backpack, backpacks of your friends or your kids and you will know how to make it weathered, damaged, dirty and lifelike.
