  • Step 1 — Cleaning and sanding

    Making a resin German ammo boxes Separate resin parts and remove thin resin remnants with sharp blade. Please, be careful, sharp blade may hurt you or damage resin part. Clean and polish joining points of resin parts with sandpaper. Use 800–1000 grade sandpaper. To separate small parts from resin sprue please scratch the line near the part. Use sharp needle and scratch the surface several times. Break the part from the sprue and sand the surface with file and polish with sandpaper.

    Step 2 — Completing

Some wooden boxes had wooden wooden bar which was used as an handle. Such handles are in following sets: E-002, E-003, E-005, E-015 and E-016.

    Step 3 — Priming

    Such prepared ammo box can be primed with Mr.Resin Primer Surfacer, Mr.Surfacer or similar primer.

    Step 4 — Painting + Colours and markings of ammo boxes

    Painted boxes should be left for drying. After that you may add some weathering and make boxes looking a little bit worn. When all effects are added you may install such prepared element on your kit or diorama.

    Natural wood

    Wooden boxes were often left with natural wood colours and were covered with transparent varnish or colourless lacquer.

    Painted boxes

    In early stages of war ammo boxes were painted with black green colour. You may use following paints:
    • Humbrol 91
    • Mr.Color C018
    • Mr.Hobby Color H065
    • any equivalent of popular aviation colour RLM70
    In later stages of war ammo boxes were painted with Dunkelgelb 43 colour too.
    • Humbrol 84
    • Mr.Color C030
    • Mr.Hobby Color H403
    • Tamiya XF-60
    • any equivalent of popular armour colour Dunkelgelb 43 / Wehrmacht Olive

    Markings

    Boxes with 8,8 cm ammunition (E-005 & E-006 sets) had markings applied for quick recognition what kind of ammo was stored inside. Markings system was very simple — colour stripes. White stripes for APCBC ammo:
    • 8,8 cm Panzergranatpatrone 39 für Kw.K.36
    • 8,8 cm Panzergranatpatrone 39/43 für Kw.K.43
    Yellow stripes for HE ammo:
    • 8,8 cm Sprenggranatpatrone L/4,5 für Kw.K.36
    • 8,8 cm Sprenggranatpatrone L/4,5 für Kw.K.43

    Step 5 — Weathering and finish

    Feel free to adjust your ammo boxes appearance according to your diorama weather conditions. Ammo boxes could look like freshly manufactured but on the frontline could be dusted, dirty, wet or covered with mud or snow.
